Your ideal client already has the answers. Here's the system to capture them.

Market research interviews are the most valuable business data you will ever collect. This tracker gives you the exact questions to ask, space to document up to 10 calls, and an AI prompt to surface the patterns that tell you exactly what to build, how to talk about it, and what to charge.

Most founders skip market research because it feels like extra work before the real work begins. The reality is the opposite: the conversations you have before you build are the foundation everything else runs on. Your content, your offer, your positioning, your pricing — all of it gets sharper when it is grounded in what real people actually said to you.

Market research interviews are not focus groups or surveys. They are one-on-one conversations with real people who match your ideal client profile, and the goal is to understand their lived experience with the problem you solve, in their own words. Those words become your copy. Those frustrations become your content pillars. That pricing feedback tells you what your offer is worth before you ever build it.

This guide gives you the full system: how to find interview candidates, a sample outreach post you can adapt, the exact questions to ask in every call, and an AI prompt to drop into Claude or ChatGPT once the interviews are done so you can extract the patterns without spending hours re-reading your notes.

Before you start, here's what you'll need

The setup.

Step 01Write your outreach post

You need people willing to talk to you, and the fastest way to find them is a direct, honest post on social media or to your email list. Be specific about who you are looking for. Vague asks get ignored; specific asks get responses.

Here is a template you can adapt to your niche:

Copy and adapt for your audience

"Hey everyone! I am looking to connect with [describe your ideal client] for a 30-minute research conversation. I am building a [program / offer / resource] and want to make sure it actually solves the right problems for the right people. This is purely for research and nothing you share will be made public. As a thank you, I will [offer something of value in return, such as a free audit, a resource, or a 1:1 consult]. If this sounds like you, drop a comment or send me a message."

Aim to book at least five calls before drawing any conclusions. Ten is the number where clear patterns start to show up across almost every niche.

Step 02Book and prepare your calls

Before the call starts, have everything in place so you can give the conversation your full attention.

  • Send a calendar invite with a video link immediately after someone says yes.
  • Ask for permission to record the call when you send the invite.
  • Have this tracker open with the interview number and their name filled in.
  • Turn off notifications and close any tabs you do not need.
  • Keep your questions visible but do not read them robotically; let the conversation breathe.

Step 03Conduct the interview using this tracker

The interview questions below are designed to uncover the emotional reality of your ideal client's experience, not just the surface-level facts. Let people talk. The best data comes from the moments when someone goes off script and starts describing something in their own language. Write that down word for word.

Do not skip the pricing question. It is uncomfortable for a lot of founders to ask, but it is one of the most important data points you will collect. The answer tells you what level of urgency your ideal client actually feels about solving this problem.

Scroll down to the tracker to fill in each interview as you go.

Step 04Run your notes through AI to find the patterns

Once you have completed five or more interviews, consolidate your notes into a single document and paste them into Claude or ChatGPT with the prompt below. The AI will surface the language patterns, recurring frustrations, and pricing signals that are easy to miss when you are reading one interview at a time.

Copy and paste into Claude or ChatGPT after your interviews

I am going to share notes from [number] market research interviews I conducted with my ideal client. Please read through all of the responses and do the following:

1. Identify the top 3 to 5 recurring frustrations or pain points, using their exact language where possible.
2. Note any specific phrases or words that multiple people used to describe their problem or desired outcome. These are copy gold.
3. Summarize the pricing signals: what did people say they would spend, and what does that tell me about the urgency they feel?
4. Identify the top content questions they want answered, from the final question in the interview.
5. Based on all of the above, suggest what the core promise of my offer should be and how I might position it.

Here are my interview notes: [paste your notes]

Step 05Apply what you learned

Market research data is only valuable if you use it. After your AI analysis, you should have a clear picture of the language your ideal client uses, the frustrations they feel most acutely, and what they are willing to invest to solve the problem. That is your blueprint.

  • Rewrite your content pillars around the recurring frustrations your interviews surfaced.
  • Use their exact language in your offer copy, your hook lines, and your social posts.
  • Set your offer price based on the willingness-to-pay data, not what feels comfortable to you.
  • Build your first five pieces of educational content around the questions from the final interview question.
  • Revisit this data every time you launch something new or feel disconnected from your audience.

The tracker.

That's it.

Ten conversations, the right questions, and an AI analysis pass. That is the full system. What you collect here will inform your content for months, sharpen your offer positioning, and give you the exact language your audience uses to describe their own problem. You do not have to guess anymore.

Once you have run this process, the next step is putting what you learned into a real content and offer system. That is exactly what we build inside Her AI Systems™.

Common questions.

How many market research interviews do I need?

Aim for at least 5 interviews before drawing conclusions. Ten is the number where clear patterns start to show up across almost every niche.

What should I ask in a market research interview?

Ask about their lived experience with the problem you solve: where they spend time, their personal journey with the obstacle, the most frustrating part, what they have already tried, what they would pay for a guaranteed fix, and the questions they most want answered.

Can I use AI to analyze my interview notes?

Yes. Once you have completed 5 or more interviews, paste your consolidated notes into Claude or ChatGPT and ask it to surface recurring frustrations, exact-language phrases, pricing signals, and the top content questions, then suggest your offer's core promise.
